GRADE TEN-QUARTER ONE

1.  Use information from news reports, speeches, informative talks, panel discussions, etc. in            everyday conversations and exchanges

   

2.  Determine the effect of textual aids like advance organizers, titles, non-linear illustrations, etc.       on the understanding of the text

3.  Appraise the unity of plot, setting, and characterization in a material vieweed to achieve the           writer's purpose

​

4.  Compare and contrast the contents of the materials viewed with outside sources of                       information in terms of accessibility and effectiveness

​

5.  Employ analytical listening in problem solving

     

6.  Evaluate and make judgements about a range of texts using a set of criteria e.g. comparing           arguments on the same topic, critiquing a short story

GRADE TEN - QUARTER TWO

1.  Observe the language of reserach, campaigns, and advocacies

​

2.  Identify key strutural elements

      a.  Exposition-Statement of Position, Arguments

      b.  Restatement of Positions and language features of an argumentative text

      c.  Modal verbs: should, must, might

      d.  Modal adverbs: usually, probably, etc.

      e.  Attitudes expressed through evaluative language

      f.   Conjunctions or connectives to link ideas: because, therefore, on the other hand, etc.

      g.  Declarative statemens

      h.  Rhetorical questions

      i.   Passive Voice

3.   Formulate a statement of opinion or assertion

​

4.   Formulate claims of fact, policy, and value

​

5.   Write an exposition or discussion on a familiar issue to inlcude key structural elemetns and                      language features

​

6.   Deliver a prepared or impromptu talk on an issue employing the techniques in public speaking

7.   Compose texts which include multi-modal elements

GRADE TEN - QUARTER THREE

1.  Compose an argumentative essay

​

2.   Use a variety of informative, persuasive, and argumentative writing techniques

​

3.   Compose an independent critique of a chosen selection

​

4.   Critique a literary selection based on the following approaches:

      a.  Structuralist/Formalist

      b.  Moralist

      c.  Marxiist

      d.  Feminist

      e.  Historical

      f.   Reader-response

GRADE TEN - QUARTER FOUR

1.   Distinguish technical terms used in research

​

2.   Given technical and operational definitions

​

3.   Give expanded definitions of words

​

4.   Observe correct grammar in making definitions

​

5.   Compose a research report on a relevant social issue
